Water Saving

In Italy - ISTAT source https://www.istat.it/it/archivio/295148 - in 2022 the water dispersed in municipal drinking water distribution networks would satisfy the water needs of 43.4 million people for an entire year.

One of the least virtuous provinces in Italy is the municipality of Vibo Valentia (65.5%) where we have around 8 hectares of land.

In order to optimize water use:

- every year we promptly check the irrigation system,

- in 2023 we implemented - thanks to the Co-Fresh Horizon 2020 project - an irrigation management system, where thanks to soil humidity and temperature sensors we could supply the right quantity of water to the plant.

The incredible result of the experiment was -24% water use over the entire season, for 1 hectare of clementines.

Clearly the climate in recent years, which is difficult to predict and increasingly arid, will affect the use of water, but being careful not to waste it and squander it is a duty of us farmers and humans.
